Prepare your labelling for Natasha’s Law

Natasha’s Law comes into effect 1 October 2021, is your current food labelling fit for purpose?

Collect product and ingredient information

Every PPDS business should make a list of their suppliers and retrieve in-depth information from all parties regarding their products and ingredients.

More than this, it’s important to set up a system so that when ingredients are changed or the product is altered in some way, the relevant parties are informed and labels on packaging can quickly be changed. Accurately describing product ingredients will be key in meeting the new requirements of Natasha’s Law.

Adapt your labelling process

Since each product will be comprised of different ingredients and some may have a larger number of ingredients than others – the labels you choose for your PPDS products will need to be variable in size and adapt to the content for each product.

As a solution to the labelling problems presented by Natasha’s law, Fortoak Group’s Linerless Labels cater to this unique PPDS business problem;

Linerless labels have variable label lengths that adapt to the amount of information needed, meaning no wasted space and a cost effective solution to variable label needs. As well as being environmentally friendly with no backing paper – the adhesive layer is attached directly to the paper layer underneath, much like a roll of adhesive tape, reducing waste and providing a more flexible option.

This allows PPDS businesses to adhere to Natasha’s law, while saving on roll charges and reducing paper waste, as the size of each Fortoak label is determined by the length of the ingredients/allergens list supplied.

Educate your staff

To ensure that everyone in your team is working towards the same goal – of adhering to Natasha’s law and keeping customers safe – brief staff about the impending October deadline well in advance. Educate them about the products that they’re selling and the allergens they contain.

Relevant staff should be trained to use any new systems and help facilitate the transformation of the business, to ensure the highest standards of safety to customers and that business continues to run as smoothly as possible.
