Finding ways to reduce single use plastics
In the UK we currently consume up to 35.8 million single use plastic bottles a day.
Each bottle takes up to 450 years to degrade.
The till roll market in 2018 consumed the equivalent of up to 6,000,000 boxes of 20 of 79mm thermal product. Switching one box of 20 of 79mm to coreless thermal rolls could save the equivalent of up to 7 single use plastic bottles. That’s equal to 42,000,000 plastic bottles saved per year.
This is just for the UK market which accounted for up to 36,000 tonnes of thermal demand during 2018. Global demand in 2018 was over 1,000,000 tonnes of thermal product.
This equates to a potential saving of up to 1.3 billion single use plastic bottles a YEAR GLOBALLY.
Currently over 98% of this product has plastic use cores as the backbone of this equivalent 79mm thermal product.
During 2019 Fortoak Rolls Ltd have pioneered, with the help of RoboPlus Coreless Technology, the availability and ability to produce these 79mm thermal rolls WITHOUT plastic cores.

Alex Vergopoulos, CEO for Fortoak Group commented:
“Fortoak are putting sustainability at the forefront of our growth strategy. In 2018, we championed the use of cardboard cores for volume supply. We’ve also successfully launched Naturoll, an eco-friendly thermal till roll with a cardboard core that is 100% BPA, bisphenol and phenol free. Now we are rolling out our coreless supply of thermal rolls and currently have stock of 79mm Plain and 57mm Plain available for sale.”
